REM competed in several races during the month of June. The two major races were the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship in ICAR and Mosport. REM put up a good showing in each of these events. In ICAR the main drivers to watch all weekend were Rui Teixeira and Kevin Monteith both drivers were extremely fast all weekend. During the course of the weekend, Rui was involved in many turn one accidents but was fast enough to rebound and make it into the top ten in each event. As for Kevin, he also showed promising speed on Saturday’s prefinal when he was running 4th and was forced to retire with mechanical issues but in the final he came from last place to finish 4th. Then on Sunday he was able to manage a podium finishing 3rd. REM had some other drivers in attendance that were haunted with either crashes or mechanical failures.
Stefan Yasin was running 6th in the highly competitive DD2 field but then got his rear bumper knocked off by another driver. Matthew Radaelli also struggled with mechanical issues all Saturday and was unable to race on Sunday. This was also the same story for Jason Assinck who struggled terribly on Saturday so he too was also unable to compete in Sunday Competition.
Two weeks after the events in ICAR, REM was back at it for the next 2 races of the ECKC in Mosport Ontario. This would be REM’s largest race for attendance thus far since the team was established, with ten drivers under the tent including one new driver known as Taylor Gates as he switched from his previous chassis and saw considerable gains. This was a great showing for the team at REM where they pulled in many top ten results and were well noticed throughout the paddock.
The drivers with the top finishes throughout the weekend were Aidan Landauer, Taylor Gates, and Kevin Monteith. Aidan Landauer put up an amazing showing on Saturday where he started tenth and moved his way forward to making a truly outstanding pass on the last lap for third place. On Sunday Aidan was only able to manage 8th but when he returned to the paddock it was quickly learned that Aidans seat had broken severely in 4 places causing the balance of the chassis to be altered. The new driver, Taylor Gates came out strong this weekend. Saturday was a bit of a struggle being knocked about on the open lap as he fell to the rear of the field but then rebounded to 8th but then again got pushed wide and fell to 11th. Although Saturday was a bit rough, Sunday was his day to shine as the young driver qualified on the outside of row number one, only a few one hundredths of a second off the pole time. Through the prefinal Taylor lost a few spots and fell to sixth but came back in the final to be running inside the top 3 before the seat bolt broke causing the chassis handling to change, as he fell to seventh. This was a great opening race for Gates on the birel and he looks for more solid finishes to come. Kevin Monteith had a good weekend as well finishing fourth on Saturday action and then 6th in Sunday action. Rui Teixeira was also another solid contender as he finished in the 6th spot on Saturday but had engine issues come Sunday which resulted in a DNF. Richard Hibbs also had a solid weekend as he struggled Saturday but Sunday he turned things around by qualifying 8th in the strong DD2 category in the final he ended up finishing 10th which was a great showing for him.
This was an extremely busy month for REM and we are very proud of our drivers as they are showing true professionalism and a great spirit as they attend each race.
